Hello lovelies! I hope you had a great four day week last week and enjoyed the holiday weekend.  It is finally nearing summertime and all the kiddos will be out of school.  Needless to say summertime can be even busier than the school year so I hope you have a fun vacation planned and get some R&R time!

The month of May was pretty busy so I did not get a whole lot of time to sample the Play! by Sephora May Box fully.  I used a couple of the samples and am familiar with another one so I can share what I know.  I would love it if you would let me know in the comments at the end of the post if you have had any experience with these products.

Honestly, I was a little disappointed.  It did not seem to have anything that just WOWED me.  It was even the box that marked TWO years of Play! by Sephora.  Honesly, I expected a little better box for a two year celebration.  They claim these products are all beauty products that have withstood the test of time and have a cult following. I suppose they probably do and we shall see if they gain another fan once I get to try them fully!  I am already a fan of Deva Curl, which are the best products for curly hair, so that gives me hope on the rest of these!

So, here we go.  The contents of the box was the following:

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina:  This is described in the brochure as “creamy, matte liquid lipstick that is an all time favorite for its epic 12-hour wear and weightless, hydrating formula.”  I actually wore this for a photo shoot this past weekend and it was really good! It stayed on the entire time and I never had to reapply. It is super creamy and fairly moisturizing and did not bleed outside of my lips.  I have grown to love these liquid lipsticks when I go to events and do photos because I know they will stay on the entire time.  My favorite part about this one is the color. It is a beautiful rose pink that was perfect for my complexion!

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Pore Minimizing: This is a silicone based primer and is for oily skin. It is oil free and helps blur imperfections and leaves a matte finish for up to 8 hours. You have to be really careful when you are applying a silicone based primer.  Reason being if you rub it too much it will break down.  I recommend just dabbing it into your skin or making one clean wipe across the skin.

I have not tried this specific primer yet but I have to say I am not a huge fan of silicone primers or a matte finish.  I use primers that actually give me a little shimmer.  If you like the matte look and have oily skin this one would be worth a try. It has 60K loves and an almost 4 star review with Sephora.

Deva Curl Supercream Coconut Curl Styler: Now this one is an easy one for me. I absolutely love Deva Curl products because I have curly hair.  I truly believe this brand has a cult following because you can’t find any hair products like it for curly hair.  I have tried just about everything!  When I found a Deva Curl specialist and started using these products it changed my life! NOT KIDDING!  Don’t you love products that do that for you?

So this is one of the products that made total sense for me. This would not work for someone with straight hair at all. I actually have not tried this yet because I use the regular styling cream and love it. But I am going to give it a whirl when I don’t have anywhere to go.  I really love the smell so I am hoping I like it!

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet: I would say that Caudalie probably has a cult following.  There are not many products out there that come close to the ones they make.  They have proprietary grape-seed polyphenols they use in their products that make them special and have a very distinct smell.  I would love to use the products because I think they are very good but I just can’t handle the smell.  It lingers for quite a long time.

Origins Clear Imporvement Active Charcoal Mask to Clear Pores: If you like a charcoal mask this one is a really good one.  I have used it several times and think it works great.  I have a few small bottles of it because I have received it in a previous Play! by Sephora box and I use my points from Sephora to get one if they have it available.  This mask will definitely unclog your pores and give you clean looking skin!

Bonus: Gucci Bloom: This perfume was created with Rangoon Creeper which is a flower that starts out white and changes to red as it blooms.  This is a unique, evocative scent that was designed with the Gucci customer in mind.

I would not say this box was a total fail and that I honestly will continue to wear the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick and would probably end up purchasing it.  I also love the Tart Tartiest Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint which I also received in a Play! by Sephora box.  These samples will probably last me a little while so I will not need to purchase either of them anytime soon.  Which is why I love getting these boxes!

Thanks for reading and let me know if you have any questions or comments ! I would love for you to share with me anything you might know about these products!

  1. I have not used any of these exact products, but I have used other Deva Curl and Origins Products and like them both. That primer sounds interesting because I have oily skin and love matte finishes and oil absorbing products. I might have to give something like that a try.
